Looking to integrate financial capability into your organization and your community this summer? Prosperity Indiana’s Financial Capability Corps can help!
WHAT IS FINANCIAL CAPABILITY?
Financial capability is the combination of attitude, knowledge, skills, and self-efficacy needed to make and exercise money management decisions that best fit the circumstances of one's life, within an enabling environment that includes, but is not limited to, access to appropriate financial services.*
WHAT IS THE INDIANA FINANCIAL CAPABILITY CORPS?
The Indiana Financial Capability Corps (IFCC) is statewide partnership joining Prosperity Indiana and local nonprofit organizations like Community Action, United Ways, and Community Development Corporations, and others, including local governments. The IFCC utilizes AmeriCorps, a national service program, to bridge the gap between low-wealth residents and available financial capability resources through education and empowerment. AmeriCorps Members implement financial capability capacity by designing programs across an organization’s service lines and interacting with community residents to teach these important practices. Ultimately, the goal is to improve a resident’s access to programs that boost his/her financial outcomes.
WHAT IS AMERICORPS?
AmeriCorps, also referred to as the “domestic Peace Corps,” is a network of national service initiatives, made up of three primary programs that each take a different approach to improving lives and fostering civic engagement. Members commit their time to address critical community needs like increasing academic achievement, mentoring youth, fighting poverty, sustaining the environment, preparing for disasters, an much more. AmeriCorps is managed by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS).
