Customer Journey Mapping: A Tool for Wealth Building in Latino Communities

Assisting families progress from financial crisis to financial wellness is a journey requiring customer-centric strategies to strengthen family engagement. Local Housing Coalitions

Due to interest generated by our recent Summit session, Building A Coalition of Housing Organizations, Prosperity Indiana is creating resources to assist Indiana communities build and manage strong housing coalitions. This webpage offers practical tips outlining what a community coalition or partnership is, why and when it can be a good strategy, who should be included, and how to implement it. Free Legal Aid Clinics with Indiana Legal Help

Hoosiers facing eviction can talk to a lawyer at free legal aid clinics offered regularly around the state. At a clinic, lawyers are there to explain tenant’s rights and responsibilities, prepare participants for the eviction process, help with eviction sealing, and provide referrals to other services. Clinics are held in person at convenient locations like courts or libraries or remotely through Zoom. The best place to learn about upcoming free legal aid clinics is on the Events page of the Indiana Legal Help website. There you will find a list of events that can be filtered by county, zip code, or legal issue. Click on an event to get details like the time, location, and registration instructions. Not sure where to start? There are virtual eviction clinics open to all Hoosiers every week in May like the one coming up on May 3 from 10:00-2:00pm ET.

Summit Recap 

Prosperity Indiana’s Annual Statewide Summit was held on April 9-10, 2024 at the Marriott North Indianapolis. Nearly 260 registered attendees from all sectors gathered to network and learn about Indiana’s affordable housing crisis. Huge thanks to all who attended!

Advocacy

Prosperity Indiana and Members on Capitol Hill

This month, Prosperity Indiana members and staff participated in several rounds of in-person and virtual meetings with Indiana’s Congressional delegation for the NCRC Just Economy Conference and Consumer Advocacy Week. Thanks to members from the Fair Housing Center of Central Indiana, HomesteadCS, the Indiana Community Action Poverty Institute, Northwest Indiana Reinvestment Alliance, South Bend Heritage for helping us carry our message to Capitol Hill about affordable housing, community development resources, and asset-building and consumer protections!
 

Current Opportunities for Advocacy

New: Join Prosperity Indiana, the Hoosier Housing Needs Coalition, and partners from across the country for the National Week of Action to protect #HousingFirst and oppose the criminalization of homelessness starting April 22! Get the advocacy toolkit and find out how to get involved here.

New: PI encourages members to submit a public comment in support of a new proposed rule that would eliminate unnecessary barriers to HUD-assisted housing on screening potential tenants with conviction or arrest records. Comments are due June 10. 

Reminder: Join PI & HHNC in urging Governor Holcomb to create a Commission on Housing Safety, Stability, and Affordability. Keep your eyes out for a new sign-on letter coming soon.

FHLBank Indianapolis is proudly committed to expand their reach in local communities by expanding their investments into their grant programs.

In 2024, FHLBank Indianapolis’ Affordable Housing Program will award up to $28.5 million toward projects that support affordable housing development, with individual grants of up $1 million each. FHLBank Indianapolis offers several initiatives to support homeownership, with up to $20,000 in down payment and closing cost assistance for first-time homebuyers and awards of up to $15,000 to fund necessary repairs or modifications for existing homeowners. The Elevate Small Business Grants support economic development in local communities across the district with grants of up to $20,000 to fund capital expenditures, workforce development and other needs that help entrepreneurs take their business to the next level.

Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis is a regional wholesale bank owned by its nearly 400 member institutions, which include local banks, credit unions, community development financial institutions and insurance companies headquartered throughout Indiana and Michigan. FHLB Indianapolis' core mission is to provide a reliable source of liquidity to their member institutions to support housing finance, asset-liability management and community lending.

        2024 Community Perspective Survey

        The Community Perspectives Survey is a national survey aimed at reporting the economic conditions of LMI communities and the health of the organizations serving them. This survey has three objectives: 

        1) Monitor the economic conditions of LMI communities, 2) Measure the impact of economic disruptions in LMI communities, and 3) Uncover the needs and capacity of organizations serving LMI communities.
