Indiana unStable: Achieve Housing Stability in Your Community. Free lunch-and-learn webinars to help your community achieve housing stability.

What the Data Tells Us | September 12, 2023 | 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. ET

Can you make the case for your community to strengthen housing stability? This program will provide you with the data to determine what is affecting housing instability in your community and make the case for partnerships to increase housing stability. It will also showcase IHCDA's Housing Dashboard that will help measure your success in supporting housing stability. The program will increase IERA providers' data literacy skills supporting renter outreach services and access to affordable housing.

Rental Housing Development Finance Professional Certification Program

The Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority is partnering with the National Development Council (NDC) to host the Rental Housing Development Finance Professional Certification Program (RHDFP). The RHDFP Certification Program is a three-course training series that thoroughly examines the practice of affordable rental housing finance and development. Participants learn the steps of the housing development process, the techniques used to analyze and structure financing for rental housing deals, and the problem solving and negotiating skills needed to make complicated deals feasible. Topics include the rental housing development process, historic rehabilitation, and Low-Income Housing Tax Credits.

Tools You Can Use

The Indiana Bar Foundation has two excellent resources for legal help related to housing stability. Their resource, indianalegalhelp.org, is a hub for self-help resources and information related to a variety of legal issues. It is a great source for plain language forms, videos, and guidelines to keep Hoosiers in their homes. The Bar Foundation also has 150 statewide kiosks to assist residents navigate the legal system.

That's A Wrap on Regional Meetings

This week the Prosperity Indiana team wrapped up its blitz of annual member meetings, where we had the pleasure of traveling to seven different communities around the state to meet with our members and partners. These meetings are always a great opportunity to network, support local businesses, and check in about what you all are seeing in the field. We appreciate each and every person who attended these events, and if you weren't able to attend, let's connect soon. 

Annual Policy Survey

Prosperity Indiana members like you directly shape our annual policy agenda by providing us with feedback about the issues that matter to them. Our annual policy survey will arrive in your inbox this week, so be sure to keep an eye out for that and submit it before the deadline on Tuesday the 5th at 5:00 PM. 

PI Members Get to Know Their Legislators

The Prosperity Indiana team recently announced the launch of our brand new member benefit to help you Get to Know Your Legislators and take your advocacy capacity to the next level. We believe that building lasting relationships with your legislators in order to influence public policy is key to the work of strengthening our communities. However, we know that engaging with local, state, and federal elected officials can be intimidating at first. That's why we're here to help!

So far this summer, Prosperity Indiana staff has accompanied a number of members to positive and productive meetings with their state legislators-- and we took pictures to prove it! 
 

Discussing Homelessness with Indiana's Congressional Delegation

Last month, Coalition Coordinator Hale Crumley represented Prosperity Indiana members at the National Alliance to End Homelessness conference and Hill Day. She led a session on our Hoosier Housing Needs Coalition as a replicable model for statewide advocacy coalitions. Hale also met with five of the offices in Indiana's congressional delegation to discuss Indiana's housing and homelessness crisis, as well as potential federal solutions. 
 

Help Spread This Payday Lending Alternative 

A recent report from Prosperity Indiana member the Indiana Community Action Poverty Institute reminds us that predatory payday lenders can charge up to 391% APR on small dollar loans that are typically utilized by families facing emergencies. Our Hoosiers for Responsible Lending advocacy coalition is hard at work on this issue, but in the meantime, Indiana needs a safe alternative. For that reason, Prosperity Indiana brought a national program to our state called the Community Loan Center. You can learn more on the CLC website.

Indiana Mental Health & Addiction Symposium

Join mental health and addiction experts, community leaders, and advocates as they dive into thought-provoking discussions that will shape the future of mental health in Indiana. The 2023 Mental Health and Addiction Symposium: Expanding Frontiers in Indiana’s Mental Health Landscape will be on December 8th and is being hosted by Mental Health America of Indiana.

U.S. Department of Transportation Grants Now Accepting Applications

As a part of the RCN Opportunity, the Neighborhood Access and Equity Grant Program (NAE) will provide up to $3.155 billion in grant awards to connect communities by supporting neighborhood equity, safety, and affordable transportation access. 

The NAE program will award funding for planning & construction activities to eligible facilities under three types of grants: Community Planning, Capital Construction, and Regional Partnerships Challenge.

OCRA Recovery Housing Program Now Accepting Applications

Funding from the program will go directly to the rehabilitation or construction of recovery residences that meet the National Alliance of Recovery Residences’ level II, III or IV standards. The following activities are eligible for RHP funding: Public facilities and improvements, acquisition and disposition of real property, administration.

Entitlement cities, non-entitlement cities, counties or incorporated towns are encouraged to apply. The lead applicant may contract with a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization to carry out the activities of an eligible project.

TD Ready Challenge Now Accepting Applications

The TD Ready Challenge is our annual North American initiative, which has ten (10) $1 million grants available to organizations developing innovative, impactful and measurable solutions for a changing world.The 2023 TD Ready Challenge is seeking innovative solutions to help address systemic barriers to affordable housing across the continuum from transitional to permanent homes, and to help increase access to affordable and stable housing for those that need it most.

Marion County Tax Credits Now Accepting RFPs

Each year the City of Indianapolis releases a Request for Information (RFI) for Marion County developers, community organizations, and businesses that have Marion County real estate projects for which they may be interested in receiving New Markets Tax Credits. The RFI form is linked below and is due Sept. 30. Learn more here. 

IPA's Mutz Philanthropic Leadership Institute Now Accepting Applications

The John Mutz Philanthropic Leadership Institute identifies and develops transformational philanthropic leaders in Indiana. This cohort-based program provides a continuing education experience that prepares future leaders for board and executive roles at foundations and corporations serving communities across Indiana.
