The Upcoming Legislative Session
As session approaches, the advocacy team at Prosperity Indiana wants to do everything we can to help you feel prepared. This month we concluded our Advocacy 101 Webinar Series as well as our traveling community conversations known as ‘Policy & Pizza’s to help you get ready. Thank you to everyone who has attended and participated in those events! Next month, plan to save the date for our Statehouse Day on January 31. Another thing we highly recommend is to make sure you and your networks are signed up for PI’s emails so that you can receive our action alerts. As a PI member, you can also expect to receive weekly legislative updates throughout session. |

Prosperity Indiana is well-known for its housing advocacy, but did you know that we work on policy at the federal level as well as the state level? PI partners with the National Low Income Housing Coalition on a number of priorities, particularly relating to renters and their housing stability needs. NLIHC has a number of active action alerts right now, and we highly recommend checking them out. |

Hoosier Housing Needs Coalition Meeting The Indiana General Assembly 2024 legislative session will begin shortly after the new year, and we have some affordable housing solutions on the table. Join us on Zoom on January 12th to learn about land banks, community land trusts, and the respective bills that could propel them into even greater success in Indiana. We will discuss what land banks and community land trusts are and how they contribute to Indiana's supply of affordable housing, as well as the related pieces of legislation that will be introduced and how you can support them. Save the Date for PI’s 2024 Summit on April 10, 2024, at the Indianapolis Marriott North. Housing Hoosiers: Policy, Programmatic, and Partnership Solutions will provide you with take-a-ways regarding CRA and affordable housing financing, policies supporting housing development, and specific partnerships created to meet Indiana’s housing needs. Summit registration will open in early January, but your discounted hotel room rate can be secured now via the Prosperity Indiana online reservation portal.

Please nominate an outstanding colleague or program for PI's prestigious Indiana community economic development awards! Award recipients are recognized during the Summit Awards Luncheon on April 10, 2024, and all nominees receive a free ticket to the awards luncheon. The awards are listed below and the nomination process will open in January 2024. Start making your nominee list now!
- The Key Award for Supportive Services Program of the Year honors a program model that is innovative and is a leader in service provision or volunteerism.
- The Robert O. Zdenek Staff Member of the Year award honors an individual who contributes to their organization and to the community economic development field as a whole. This person shows leadership, personal initiative, and continued participation in and contribution to general public service.
- The John Niederman Rural Development Leadership Award honors John's passion, commitment, knowledge, perseverance, and leadership in Indiana’s rural communities. The award recognizes those outstanding leaders in the field of community economic development known for their efforts to improve quality of life, influence policies, and promote growth in rural Indiana.
- The Michael Carroll Award honors an individual who has exhibited exceptional advocacy to further support the community economic development industry.
- The Prosperity Indiana Policy Advocate Award recognizes a current PI member who advocates for programs and advances policies to ensure that persons of all ages, races, abilities, and income levels are included in the economic mainstream and live in sustainable communities. The recipient leads by example through building relationships with legislators, and federal, state, and local governments and organizations serving heir community. The winner also connects community stakeholders and lifts the voices of the Hoosiers most impacted by policy choices, and advocates for the benefit of the entire Prosperity Indiana network.

Leader Members Highlights |
Brightpoint
Brightpoint is involved with Everyone Home: Fort Wayne’s Community Plan to Prevent and End Homelessness. The first goal in the plan is to increase safe and affordable housing. One of the strategies to reach this goal is a coordinated landlord engagement campaign. A subcommittee was created to work on this strategy. Local news outlet Input Fort Wayne recently covered the story: How can building relationships with landlords assist local programs in addressing homelessness?
Caresource
Caresource has been giving back to the local community through their latest round of Community Impact Awards and Grants to Community Based Organizations or individuals doing important work in their communities. The recipients include Vanderburgh County Health Department’s Preto3 program, a pioneering home-visiting program led by dedicated Community Health Workers, We Bloom, an Indianapolis-based nonprofit with the mission of catalyzing health in communities, and The Mustard Seed of Central Indiana, a furniture bank serving the Central Indiana community.
The final recipient of the award, Harold Bell, works in his local community to connect low income individuals with resources, while also running a non-profit literacy program. Each recipient was also provided a $5,000 grant to further their work. |

The John Boner Neighborhood Centers have a need for volunteers for their Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Tax Preparation program!
