      IERA2 Updates

The Indiana Emergency Rental Assistance Program (IERA), which provided rent and utility assistance for Indiana residents, is closed and no longer accepting applications. IERA was specifically designed to aid those whose income was negatively affected by the COVID-19 Pandemic. With the COVID emergency declared over in May 2023, the program served its purpose and is concluding.

As a partner in the program, Prosperity Indiana thanks the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA), Indiana Community Action Association (INCAA), and Indiana Bar Foundation for their collaboration in increasing housing stability resources and services in Indiana through the IERA program.

Prosperity Indiana would also like to sincerely thank the IERA providers and their staff for their dedication and hard work assisting Hoosiers in need through providing housing counseling services to over 6,800 Hoosier families!

      Federal Funding Uncertainty Listening Session

In case you were not able to join PI, Indiana Philanthropy Alliance, and Indiana Community Action Association members for the March 6th Federal Funding Uncertainty Listening Session, here are few take aways from the program:

      • Nonprofit closures, layoffs, and suspended operations will happen without federal funding stability and will lead to exponential unintended consequences that will cost citizens and communities much more than utilizing federal public investment to fund critical community services.
      • Indiana is the 3rd-most reliant on federal public investment. A lack of federal public investment would quickly deplete state and philanthropic funding.
      • While philanthropic, charitable, and local investments cannot fully replace federal public investment, we must immediately begin strategizing on how we more innovatively and collaboratively fund community-critical work.

      Housing Navigation 101 Training

PI, in partnership with the Indiana Primary Health Care Association (IPHCA) and Health Vision’s Midwest, is offering a Housing Navigation 101 course specifically designed for community health workers. Through financial support from Humana, PI has developed a five-module course that will introduce housing programs and resources to utilize to increase patient and community health outcomes. Advocacy

Sign the Letter to Urge Governor Braun to Create a Commission on Housing Safety, Stability, and Affordability

Prosperity Indiana has reopened and updated the call for signatures for the Governor's Commission, which was originally introduced in 2024. Indiana continues to face a housing crisis with a shortage of safe, affordable homes, leading to widespread instability and health risks. Despite some efforts, the issue persists, particularly for vulnerable Hoosiers. The letter urges Governor Braun to create a Commission on Housing Safety, Stability, and Affordability to improve code enforcement, align resources, and promote collaboration to address these challenges. Sign the letter here.

      Meeting with Secretary Mike Speedy

Prosperity Indiana staff and Board Chair Steven Meyer met with Mike Speedy, Indiana's new Secretary of Business Affairs and member of Governor Braun's cabinet. Secretary Speedy, a former State Representative and longtime real estate developer, oversees nearly a dozen state agencies, including IHCDA. PI offered our network as a resource and advocated for a more comprehensive state approach to community economic development, which could foster greater economic opportunities for all Hoosiers.
