Family Development is a strengths-based approach that establishes a framework for individuals who work with families to reach self-sufficiency. The Family Development Framework helps ensure frontline workers across all sectors (social workers, police officers, human resources, teachers, etc.) are using the same highly effective approaches to support families and lead them to self-sufficiency.

Family Development training will provide you with valuable hands-on tools to work with families across all spectrums. Family Development Specialists are better able to focus resources for eligible families to achieve self-sufficiency in many areas of their lives.

The Family Development program consists of five core areas:
  1. Joining – Interviewing and dialog skills, building relationships, and cultural competency
  2. Assessment – Assessing family strengths, challenges and resources
  3. Planning – Develop well-formed goals and create plans to reach a family’s vision towards self-sufficiency
  4. Support – Evaluate barriers that may prevent families from moving forward
  5. Linking – Connecting families to community partners by providing effective referrals while continuing to support the families

The participants will meet three times a week in 60-minutes increments for roughly 2 weeks (7 sessions), see schedule posted below. Participants will have access to resource materials, interactive polling/quizzes, and other housing counseling tools through the duration of the training. These educational tools paired with good study habits will help individuals leverage confidence in using the Family Development framework moving forward.

A knowledge test will be provided at the conclusion of 7 session training to evaluation training results. Participants will have access to an OneDrive shared folder where all the training materials and resources will be available. Participants will be expected to read all modules and participant in scheduled assignments/activities.
