Release of 'Tenant Protections:

An Impact Analysis'

with Notre Dame Student Policy Network and Hoosier Housing Needs Coalition

Please join the Hoosier Housing Needs Coalition (HHNC) and other stakeholders for the release and discussion of the new report 'Tenant Protections: An Impact Analysis' by members of the Notre Dame Student Policy Network.

The presentation will be in person  at 10:00 a.m. EDT on Wednesday, April 20 at the offices of the Indiana Community Action Association, located at 1845 W. 18th St., Indianapolis, IN 46202.

The Notre Dame Student Policy Network is an undergraduate organization aimed at immersing students in public policy. 'Tenant Protections: An Impact Analysis' is the culmination of a semester-long project diving into the potential consequences of newly-passed and proposed tenant-focused legislation. Using state-to-state comparisons, interviews with advocates, health outcome analysis, and economic impact, this team will show how the implementation of SB230HB1214, and tenant protections active in other states would benefit Indiana tenants, as well as the state as a whole. The report will also evaluate the extent to which the lack of tenant protections leaves Hoosier tenants and their communities vulnerable to poor health outcomes, economic repression, and other forms of negative effects. Ultimately, the findings of this report will provide actionable information for policymakers to use when considering the adoption and implementation of new tenant protection policies at the state level.

The Hoosier Housing Needs Coalition (HHNC) was formed by members of Indiana’s housing security advocacy community in April 2020, to support advocacy and education related to housing and homelessness prevention in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Staffed by Prosperity Indiana through advocacy and coalition building grants from the National Low Income Housing Coalition and the Central Indiana Community Foundation, HHNC convenes partners from across Indiana to advocate for immediate, medium- and long-term housing stability policy solutions and conduct education and research to achieve federal, state, and local policies for an equitable response and recovery to the pandemic and beyond.

Special thanks to HHNC Steering Committee member Indiana Community Action Poverty Institute and the Indiana Community Action Association for hosting this event.
